How to do coherent breathing
Breathe in for 5 seconds
Through your nose, filling your belly first. The wave rises.
Breathe out for 5 seconds
Slowly, without forcing it. The wave falls. Then again, with no pause.
Coherent breathing means breathing at a slow, even pace, around 6 times a minute. At that pace, your pulse tends to rise and fall in step with your breath. It's also called resonance breathing, or cardiac coherence.
A well-known routine, popular in France, is «365»: 3 times a day, 6 breaths a minute, 5 minutes each time. This isn't medical treatment. If you feel dizzy or short of breath, go back to breathing normally.
Sea of Tranquility sets the pace; it doesn't measure your pulse or your heart rate variability. In the app, this pattern is called «Coherente».
